Hi! I’m a writer and poet who writes primarily for kids. I love to write poetry, nonfiction, and picture book fiction. I’m dying to write easy readers and chapter books but haven’t quite got that figured out yet! I have about 100 books published in the educational market, plus two trade poetry collection picture books out with Clarion (BookSpeak! Poems About Books and Stampede! Poems to Celebrate the Wild Side of School). And my newest book is a rhyming nonfiction picture book from Millbrook Press called A Leaf Can Be… (with absolutely stunning art by Violeta Dabija).
In addition to writing, I do lots of word-related things: speak at writing conferences, do school visits and Young Authors Conferences, mentor other children’s and ya writers through Mentors for Rent, do freelance copyediting, write assessment materials. It’s a crazy quilt of a career!
